Red lipstick; I love it! It adds instant va-va-voom to every look, it’s always appropriate and it’s the perfect finishing touch for every retro outfit. And – if applied properly - it also makes your lips look fuller. But of course, you don’t want your red lips to leave you looking like a clown. That’s why I have got some tips for you on how to create the perfect red lip. Because you should never underestimate the power of red lips!

Find the right shade for your skin tone
The key to the perfect red lip, is finding the shade of red that is most flattering for your skin tone. There are many great red lipsticks out there but picking the wrong shade can leave you looking washed out, surely not the look you’re going for. That’s why you should start by identifying your skin’s undertones, are these cool or warm? If you look best in silver or white gold jewellery, you have a cool skin tone. If you look better in gold (toned) jewellery, you have warm undertones.

If you have cool undertones, you tend to look best in cool reds, like dark red or cherry. If you fit in the warm skin tone category, opt for warm-toned lipsticks like orangey-reds and brownish-reds.

Swatching lipstick the right way

While looking for the perfect shade of lipstick, actually testing it on your lips will of course give you the best result. But I can think of a variety of reasons why this might not be the best idea ?. That’s why most people use the back of the hand but your best chance of finding the right shade is swatching the lipstick on your fingertips. As it turns out the skin tone of your fingertips most closely matches your natural lip colour. Once you’ve found the right shade for you, it’s worth investing in a matching lipliner as well. Lip care
Did you manage to find a pretty lipstick and a matching lipliner? They will look better and last longer on smooth, well-hydrated lips. Exfoliate your lips with a toothbrush to remove any dry, loose skin and then apply some lip balm. Keep it smooth! Once you have created the perfect base, it’s time to add some colour.

Line your lips
Start by outlining your lips with lipliner, this will help to perfect your lip shape creating a fuller, more even looking pout. It will also help your lipstick last longer. So you’ll only need a quick touch-up during the day. Win-win!

Colour me perfect
Fill in your lips with the matching lipstick. Make sure you colour inside the lines, ladies!

Lipstick on your teeth
Lipstick on your teeth is not a great look! But there is a little trick that will keep your teeth colour-free: Form an ‘O’ with your lips, put your finger through the ‘O’ and slowly pull it out. This will help you to avoid this beauty gaffe. wink emoji

Finishing touch
